Kevin Anderson has enjoyed an enduring, distinguished career, which spans the breadth of almost two decades. In that time, his stellar performances on stage and on screen have left lasting impressions with his audiences. Respected by his peers as one whose body of work exemplifies highly trained and accomplished talent, Kevin is regarded as one who holds his own opposite the biggest stars in the world.
graduate of Chicago's Goodman School of Drama in his home state of Illinois, Anderson numbers among his prestigious stage credits the recent Broadway revival of Arthur Miller’s DEATH OF A SALESMAN*, for which he received a Tony Award nomination: and the Broadway Production of ORPHEUS DESCENDING opposite Vanessa Redgrave, which he later reprised with Miss Redgrave for TNT: Michael Weller's MOON CHILDREN at the Second Stage: the Circle Repertory production of BRILLIANT TRACES and several productions (most recently, I NEVER SANG FOR MY FATHER, opposite John Mahoney) at the Steppenwolf Theatre Company Ensemble, of which he is a member.
Anderson made his feature film debut in the Warner Bros. hit, RISKY BUSINESS with Tom Cruise. Yet his real career breakthrough came after appearing in the Steppenwolf production of Lyle Kessler's play ORPHANS**, when Kevin gained national critical acclaim for his riveting performance as the semiliterate, frenetic brother, "Phillip." He moved with the play to New York, and then went on to reprise his role opposite Albert Finney at Hampstead and Apollo Theatre in 1986 and in the film version directed by the late Alan J. Pakula.
He played Richard Gere's brother in the rural family drama MILES FROM HOME*** 1988, directed by Gary Sinise, followed by Norman Jewison's IN COUNTRY 1989, co-starring Bruce Willis. The hit film, SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY 1991, in which Anderson starred opposite Julia Roberts established him as one of Hollywood's promising young leading men.
Drawn to compelling characters in powerful dramas, Kevin worked in an eclectic array of material, ranging from LIEBESTRAUM directed by Mike Figgis; David Mamet's HOFFA 1992, portraying "Bobby Kennedy" opposite Jack Nicholson; in RISING SUN, 1993 with Sean Connery and Wesley Snipes; to the romantic comedy THE NIGHT WE NEVER MET, 1993 with Matthew Broderick and Annabella Sciorra.
Venturing back into musical theatre, Anderson starred opposite Patti LuPone in the 1993 world premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webber's SUNSET BOULEVARD at the Adelphi London.
In 2001 he was in the Donald Margulies comedy 'Dinner With Friends' directed by Simon Curtis at Hampstead Theatre with Elizabeth McGovern and Samantha Bond.
His more recent film work includes the Miramax release FIRELIGHT, 1997 opposite French actress Sophie Marceau directed by Bill Nicholson, followed by the drama, EYE OF GOD (which made its world première at the 1997 Sundance Film Festival), by writer, director Tim Blake Nelson and A THOUSAND ACRES, 1997 opposite Michelle Pfeiffer.
With the critically acclaimed ABC series, NOTHING SACRED****, Kevin made his network television debut in the fall of 1997 in which he portrayed a compassionate, strong willed, unconventional Catholic priest. Kevin and the show received numerous awards, and Kevin also received a 1998 Golden Globe nomination for his portrayal of "Father Ray." His only other foray into series television came in 2003 with the critically acclaimed but short-lived Jerry Bruckheimer series SKIN, opposite the late Ron Silver.
He was in feature films, DOE BOY 2001 with James Duval, produced by Chris Eyre (Smoke Signals) and WHEN STRANGER'S APPEAR, 2001 with Rahda Mitchell, and RUBY'S BUCKET OF BLOOD, 2001, an original film for Showtime, in which he stars with Angela Bassett, as a white Blues singer who falls in love with an African American "juke joint" power (Bassett) in the late 1950's in the American South.
